The Bowl Behind the Globe Is What Turns One Small Bulb Into a Warm Halo

A bare opal globe on a plate gives you a bright ball and a dark wall around it. Setting that globe inside a shallow ceramic bowl changes the whole effect: the speckled sand glaze catches the light from behind the globe and turns warm gold, so the fitting reads as a small sun with a lit ring around it rather than as a single point. The bowl also stops the light spilling sideways down the wall, which keeps the edges soft. What color is the ceramic?

A speckled sand glaze that warms to gold when lit. It is glazed by hand, so write to us and we will send a photograph of current stock before you decide.

Which bulb does it take?

One G9 bi-pin LED bulb, not included. A 2700K to 3000K bulb keeps the opal globe warm and lets the glaze read gold. A cooler bulb turns the globe blue white and flattens the speckles.

How big is it and how far does it stand out?

7.9 inches round and 7.9 inches out from the wall. That is shallow enough for a hallway where people pass close, and small enough to run as a pair either side of a mirror or a mantel.

Is the glaze the same on every piece?

The bowl is shaped and glazed by hand, so the speckle pattern and the depth of the sand tone vary from one to the next. Two mounted on the same wall will be close but not identical.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It is hardwired to a wall junction box and runs from a wall switch. There is no cord, no plug and no switch on the fitting, so the supply has to be in place before it goes up.

Can it go in a bathroom?

It is rated IP20, with no protection against water. An open bowl in a steamy room also collects moisture around the socket, which is a problem long before it is a problem for the glaze.

This glaze is sand colored with fine dark speckles, so by daylight the bowl sits quietly against a pale wall like a piece of pottery. Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
