The Reach Is Adjustable, Which Is the One Measurement People Get Wrong Before Fitting

Length is easy to plan: you measure the frame and take about two thirds of it. Reach is the measurement that catches people out, because it depends on how deep the frame is, how far the mirror stands off the wall, and how the glass is set in it. Get it wrong with a fixed arm and there is nothing to be done afterwards except move the fitting. This arm folds and opens between roughly 13 and 29 cm, so the decision is made with the light switched on and the picture already hanging. Close in for a flat print in a slim frame. Open out for a canvas on a stretcher or a mirror with a heavy surround, where the beam has to clear the edge before it starts down the face.

How far does the arm reach?

Between about 13 and 29 cm from the wall, which is 5.1 to 11.4 inches. Folded in it sits close for a flat print or a mirror. Opened out it clears a deep frame, a shadow box or a canvas on a stretcher, so the beam starts in front of the edge rather than on it.

Which length suits my frame?

About half to two thirds of the frame width. A 30 inch frame takes the 16.5 inch bar, a 40 inch frame the 22.4 inch, a 48 inch canvas or a wide mirror the 30.3 inch. The bar should stop short of the frame edges, not match them.

Is it dimmable?

As sold it holds one level. It is wired to a common push switch, and no dimmable build is offered in the order options. If dimming matters, the twin arm bars in this range include a TRIAC version.

Can it go over a bathroom mirror?

On a dry wall above the mirror, yes, and the photography shows it there. The rating is IP20, meaning no water protection, so keep it clear of the shower and of direct spray.

Does the black match other black fittings?

It is a flat black body, and the canopy is a warmer metal tone rather than black, so the fitting reads as two tone up close. Beside matte black taps and frames the tube matches and the small plate does not. That plate is 14 by 8 cm, so it is a detail rather than a feature.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let it cool. Dust the tube dry and lift marks with a barely damp cloth, drying at once. Do not force the arm while cleaning it, since the joints are set to hold a position rather than to swing.

Black Against a Frame, Where the Fitting Is Meant to Read as a Line and Not as an Object

Brass above a picture announces itself, which is sometimes the intent. Black does the opposite. Against a pale wall the tube reads as a thin horizontal line, and against a dark frame it nearly disappears, so what the eye lands on is the lit surface below rather than the equipment above it. That is why this one works over a large framed panel or a graphic print, where a warm metal arc would compete with the art. In a bathroom the same logic applies for a different reason: black taps, black frames and black mirror surrounds are now common, and the tube then belongs to a family already in the room instead of introducing a new metal to it.

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.
