What do the bars do to the light?

They cut it into lines. Each gap between two bars passes a narrow slice of the output, so the surface around the lantern ends up ringed with fine radiating lines. From a chair you read the pattern on the floor before you read the lamp.

Is there a bulb inside?

The clear tube holds an integrated LED rather than a bulb in a holder, so there is nothing to source or replace. What you see through the bars is the lit tube itself, in one of three color temperatures.

Does it hold a charge overnight?

It carries a built in battery charged by the cell in the top disc. Treat a full summer day of sun as a full evening of light, and expect less in midwinter when the days are short.

Where does it look right?

On a hard surface where the pattern can land: paving, a deck, a stone step, a wide wall top. On grass or in a border the lines fall on nothing and the lantern loses most of what makes it worth having.

Can it be carried?

Yes, at about 4 kilograms it moves easily from a table to the ground, though there is no handle on this model. There is no cable to unplug, so lift it by the body rather than the top disc, which carries the solar cell.

Will it take rain?

Yes. IP65 covers it: no dust gets in, and water jets from any angle are accounted for. Do not immerse it. Keep the top disc clear of leaves, because a covered cell stops charging rather than charging slowly.

The shape is older than it looks: a cylinder closed top and bottom by flat discs, with the bars carrying the eye vertically between them. That is a 1920s move, and it is the reason the lantern sits comfortably next to a low modern sofa or a concrete fire bowl without reading as a period piece. There is no finial, no scrollwork and no pitched roof, which is what usually dates a traditional lantern. What you get instead is a plain geometric object in matte black, dark enough by day to disappear against planting and legible enough at night to anchor a corner of a terrace.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return on eligible items. To start, email us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and the reason for the return, and we will send you the return address and instructions. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
