Close view of the lit scalloped shade and the turned oak stem

A Beige Drum Folded Into Panels With Scalloped Edges at Top and Bottom

The shade is not a plain cylinder. The beige fabric runs in wide vertical panels, and both the top and the bottom edges are cut into deep curves rather than finished straight, so the outline reads as a row of soft petals from any angle. Lit from inside, the folds matter as much as the cut: each one carries a seam of shadow where the fabric turns, which is what keeps a large drum from looking flat when it is glowing. Because the shade is open top and bottom, light leaves in three directions at once, a wide warm pool on the surface below, a soft wash on the wall behind and a faint halo above. Beneath it, the stem is solid oak turned into a long slim shaft that flares out low down into a trumpet foot, finished in a walnut tone so the grain reads darker than raw oak. Broad shade, narrow stem: the mismatch is the stance.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

What makes the shade scalloped?

The fabric runs in wide vertical panels and the top and bottom edges are cut into deep curves rather than straight lines. Lit from inside, each fold shows a seam of shadow, so the drum reads as a row of soft petals instead of a plain cylinder.

Which size should I choose?

The small one is 30 cm across and 50 cm tall, which suits a nightstand, a console or a sideboard. The large is 40 by 76 cm and stands beside an armchair almost like a small floor lamp, so it needs floor or table space to match.

Is a bulb included?

The socket is a standard E26 or E27 and takes an LED or an Edison bulb, so the brightness and the color are yours to set. A warm LED around 2700K keeps the beige fabric reading warm rather than gray.

What wood is the base?

Oak, turned into a slim shaft that flares into a trumpet foot and finished in a walnut tone, so it reads darker than raw oak. Because it is solid timber, grain and depth of tone vary from one lamp to the next.

Is the light directional?

Only gently. The fabric diffuses in every direction and the open top and bottom let light escape up and down, so it lays a wide warm pool on the surface and a soft wash on the wall behind.

How do I clean the shade?

A lint roller or a soft brush, working down the folds rather than across them. Keep water off the fabric, and wipe the oak stem along the grain with a barely damp cloth, dried at once.

The small and large beige table lamps side by side on plinths

Two Sizes That Do Genuinely Different Jobs, and an Open E26 Socket to Fill

The difference between the two sizes is not a detail, it changes what the lamp is for. The small one is 30 cm across and 50 cm tall, which is a nightstand, a console or a sideboard lamp, sitting at a height where the bottom of the shade stays below eye level when you are seated. The large is 40 by 76 cm, and at that height it stands beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa and behaves more like a small floor lamp than a table lamp; it needs a surface with the depth to carry a 40 cm shade without overhanging. The socket is the same on both, a standard E26 or E27 that takes an LED or an Edison bulb, with none supplied, so the brightness and the color temperature are chosen rather than fixed. With beige fabric a warm LED around 2700K is the safe choice, since a cooler bulb pulls the color toward gray.
