A Wide Shallow Saucer With a Stepped Chrome Collar, Drawn From the Nineteen Twenties
The shape comes straight out of the workshop lamps of the nineteen twenties: a wide shallow saucer of cream glass, 13.8 inches across and only 9.8 tall, carried on a stepped chrome collar with a twisted fabric cord above it. Shallow is the operative word, because a flat shade pushes light outward across a room rather than down into a pool. The collar is the only ornament, and its ribbed steps are what place the fitting in its period rather than in a catalogue of plain domes.
