Antique Brass Table Lamp with a Painted Glass Shade
The arm is the shape that dates it: a single metal tube leaves a round foot, arches over in a long curve and drops the shade well forward of the base, the way reading lamps were built before adjustable arms existed. Hanging from the same arch, a turned walnut counterweight and a small wood ball balance the reach. The shade is frosted glass, bell shaped, finished with a fluted fan edge and painted by hand with a small floral sprig, so lit it glows evenly with the painting showing as a soft silhouette against the glass. Because the painting is done by hand, the placement and the detail of the sprig vary between pieces. It stands 62 cm tall with a 33 cm shade, taller than most table lamps and sized for a desk, a console or a broad nightstand. The socket is E26 or E27, up to 40W, bulb not included. Two metal finishes: gold or nickel.
