Wood bar lit above a round mirror on a wood dressing table with a stool and pots

Choosing the Light Direction at Order Turns One Bar Into a Mirror Light or a Room Light

Most bars have one job because they emit in one direction. This one asks the question at order. The downward build sends everything onto what is below: the glass of a mirror, the face in front of it, the top of a dressing table. Nothing is wasted on the wall above, which is what you want in a bathroom where the fitting is there to be useful rather than to be seen. The up and down build splits the output, so a soft wash rises behind the bar and the wall reads as lit rather than as dark above a bright line. In a hallway, over a headboard, or along a long living room wall, that upward half is what stops the fitting looking like equipment and makes it part of the room.

Questions about this product

Everything you need to know about this product.

Downward, or up and down?

Downward is the one for a mirror, because all of the output goes onto the glass and onto the face in front of it. Up and down splits the light, so the wall above carries a soft wash as well, which suits a hallway, a bedroom over a headboard, or a long wall where the fitting is doing the room rather than the mirror.

Is the wood real?

Two bars from the same order will not match exactly. The walnut tone is a finish on that same pine rather than a different timber.

Will it fit my junction box?

The bar is 1.8 inches square, which is narrower than a standard US box, so the box may show at the edges or need an extra plate behind the fitting.

Which length for my mirror?

About half to two thirds of the glass. A 36 inch mirror takes the 23.6 inch bar, a 48 inch mirror the 31.5 inch bar, a double vanity or a long wall the 47.2 inch bar. At 47.2 inches it is one of only two fittings in this range that reach that far.

Can it go in a bathroom?

On a dry wall above the mirror, yes, and most of the photography is of bathrooms. IP20 means no water protection at all. Wood in a wet room deserves a second thought as well: keep it well clear of the shower, since steam and a natural timber are not friends over years.

How is it dimmed?

With a TRIAC dimmer, also sold as a leading edge dimmer, not included. A standard rotary dimmer will not drive it smoothly. Every build of this fitting is the dimmable one, so there is no separate version to choose.

A Natural Timber Above a Mirror, Which Is a Warmer Decision Than It First Appears

Almost every fitting above a mirror is metal, and metal in a bathroom reads as fixture. Pine reads as furniture. That single change is why this bar sits so easily above a wood vanity, a rustic console or a dressing table, and why it does not look like it was added by a different trade. The trade off is honest and worth stating: natural wood varies. Grain, knots and tone shift from one bar to the next, so the piece that arrives will not be the piece in the photograph, and in a room where two are fitted side by side they will differ. If that variation is the reason you want wood, this is the right fitting. If you need two that match exactly, it is not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping & Delivery

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on every order, with no minimum purchase. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay for delivery.

How long before my order ships?

Orders are typically processed within 1 to 2 business days after payment. We keep a short 24-hour window before processing so that you can adjust or cancel your order if you need to. Our team places orders with our warehouses Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

How long does delivery take?

Once your order has shipped, it is usually in transit for about 7 to 10 days. This is an estimate and can occasionally be longer depending on the destination country and the carrier handling your parcel.

How do I track my order?

As soon as your parcel ships, we send you an email containing a tracking link so you can follow its progress. If you do not see it, please check your Spam and Promotions folders.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return an item?

No. On approved returns, we provide a prepaid return shipping label at no cost to you. Please note that a return should never be sent to the manufacturer's address; only to the address our team provides.

I received a damaged or defective item. What should I do?

We are sorry to hear that. If a parcel arrives visibly damaged, please refuse delivery if you can, then contact us at support@orodwell.com with your order number and a photo of the item. We will prioritise your request and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Refund Policy.

Can I change my mind after ordering?
