The ribs do the work: each one catches the light at its own angle, so a lit cap reads as a run of soft vertical highlights rather than one even glow, and the effect shifts as you move past it. Two glass colors are offered and they behave differently. Amber is tinted and lays a golden cast over the surface below; white is opaque and gives a plain soft light with no cast at all. Under the glass, a waisted stem rises from a round disc foot, in one of four finishes: walnut, black, nickel or gold.
